To achieve this qualification, the candidates must demonstrate competency in 29 units of competency 22 core and 7 electives.
Course Overview
This is a trade qualification for wall and ceiling linings in residential and commercial construction workplaces. It includes applying and fixing linings to non-structural walls and ceilings, as well as working with fibrous plastering materials. Occupational titles may include:
- Drywaller
- Wall and Ceiling Liner
- Plasterer
State and territory jurisdictions may have different licensing, legislative, regulatory, or certification requirements. Relevant state and territory regulatory authorities should be consulted to confirm those requirements.
Completion of the general construction induction training program, specified in the Safe Work Australia model Code of Practice: Construction Work, is required by anyone carrying out construction work. Achievement of CPCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the construction industry meets this requirement. The achievement of this unit is embedded within the course structure, ensuring students are industry-compliant from day one.
Entry Requirements
Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
International students also need English proof: IELTS score of 6 (for listening, reading, writing and speaking) or equivalent in line with the Department of Education and Department of Home Affairs (DHA) Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic 47-54, TOEFL IBT 60-78, CAE Scale 169-175 Results older than two years are not acceptable (for offshore applicants).
Academic Requirement:
Completion of Year 12 VCE or equivalent overseas qualifications. Additionally, having a strong interest in the building and construction industry and possessing adequate literacy and numeracy skills are important.
Additional Requirements
Northwood International College (NIC) conducts a Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Literacy (LLND) assessment during orientation to gauge each student’s skill levels and determine the level of support needed for timely completion of the qualification; this assessment is diagnostic only and does not restrict course entry. Additionally, students must obtain a construction induction (white) card before undertaking any site visits. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required when visiting a construction site. (Steel cap boots, Hard hat, High Vis and Glasses).
